Natural Hazards

Till Wenzel

As a geomorphologist, I am interested in slope processes as well as natural hazards and risk management. Personally, I enjoy spending time outside, climbing and engaging in the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) as a volunteer. Since February 2023 I have been a PhD Student at the University of Vienna working in the PARATUS project, focusing on multi-hazard risks and how to communicate these risks to practitioners. We study high alpine geomorphological compounds and cascading hazards, combining both remote sensing methods and stakeholders experience. The interdisciplinary exchange between human and natural sciences is an integral part of my scientific work. I studied physical geography in Tübingen (B.Sc.) completing my master’s studies in Bonn and had the chance to spend time at the University of Innsbruck and Iceland.

Multiple perspectives to understand multi-hazard risks. Why is it important to meet face-to-face when we could also meet digitally?

Multiple perspectives to understand multi-hazard risks. Why is it important to meet face-to-face when we could also meet digitally?

This summer the University of Vienna has hosted an inspiring summer school on multi-hazard risk management, bringing science outreach and research closer together. In this post, Till Wenzel provides some insights about the importance of face-to-face meetings to bring together multiple perspectives and better understand multi-hazard risks.   The summer school has been organized by the Vienna I ...[Read More]
