Hello fellow geodynamicists and geoscientists! Many exciting congresses and workshops are taking place this year. You might be going to some of them, so it’s definitely time to start planning your schedule. Don’t worry—we’ve got you covered! Here we collect events that might be of interest to you, with a focus on geodynamics and tectonics, listed by chronological order. So open your calendars!
EGU25 in Vienna, Austria, 27.04 – 02.05
How not to mention it? Once again, more than 50 sessions are planned in the Geodynamics Division, with a wide range of topics as always.
You can still register as an early bird until march 31st 13:00 CET, and as a late registrant until the last minute.
2025 ASPECT Hackathon in Garden City, Utah, USA, 9.06 – 20.06
This hackathon aims at further developing the mantle convection code ASPECT. The ASPECT user community, including both current users and developers, will work side by side over a ~10-days period. Participants will make significant progress on the development of ASPECT itself, focusing on developing features and code maintenance that address the needs of the larger community. The hackathon is a time to ask for help and make progress quickly with the developers team.
The application is already open and will end April 31st or when the event reaches full capacity, so don’t wait too much !
GeoTolosa in Toulouse, France, 24.06 – 25.06
This workshop brings together scientists who study the geosphere, biosphere and atmosphere, and globally history and evolution of the Earth system during late Palaeozoic times. Sessions will be grouped into 6 symposia: A) Sedimentary records, B) Reading time and Life in Earth, C) Geodynamics, D) Economy geology from ore deposits to non-conventional resources, E) Paleoclimate, F) Regional geology and geoheritage.
One thing that makes this event stand out is that it’s got five field trips planned before and after the main conference. For example, several trips will explore the French Massif Central (from different perspectives), as well as the central Pyrenees, Montagne Noire, and the Lodève-Graissessac Basin.
Abstract submission until April 1st. Early registration, registration for field trips and gala dinner until 30.04.
Goldschmidt Conference in Prague, Czech Republic, 6.07 – 11.07
Geochemistry experts are meeting up in Prague this year. A total of 14 themes will be covered, with very broad topics and several plenary lectures. Here are a few of the topics to give you an idea of the programme: From Dust to Planets (T1), Volcanism, magmatic systems and hazard (T4), Earth Resources and Energy (T5), Co-Evolution of Life and Earth (T7), Geochemistry for Sustainable Society (T14) and many more.
Early registration until May 21st.
GeoMOD 2025 in Lisbon, Portugal, 7.09 – 12.09
The conference brings together the diversity of Earth modelling, from analogue to numerical, with diverse points of view. Six sessions are organised: 1) Geodynamics, 2) Tectonics and Crustal Deformation, 3) Earthsystems and Biogeodynamics, 4) Planetary Tectonics and Geodynamics, 5) Seismotectonics, Volcanotectonics and Short Time Scale Processes, 6) Recent Advances in Geodynamic Modelling.
Two field trips are planned: one in the Ossa Morena Terrane and another in the Algarve Basin.
Pre-registration (free of charge) until March 31st. Abstract submission open until April 30th. Registrations from April 30th – May 31st.
BeGEO 3rd edition in Napoli, Italy, 17.11 – 18.11
This 3rd edition of BeGEO Scientists is entitled “Working for future challenges in Earth Sciences” (check our previous blog to know more about the BeGEO initiatives). Plenary sessions and round-tables are planned, with a focus on cutting edge topics, such as the application of space technologies in Earth Sciences, diversity equity and inclusion in Earth Sciences, and new strategies for adaptation and resilience to climate changes.
This year, four field-trips are planned: 1) a volcanology field-trip at Mt. Vesuvius, 2) a tectonics field-trip in Irpinia, 3) a stratigraphy field-trip at Agropoli (SA), 4) an eco-tour to the historical city center, the Real Museo Mineralogico and the Osservatorio Vesuviano.
Submission of abstract open until march 31st. Early registration 15.06 – 15.07. Late registration 16.07 – 5.09
AGU25 in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, 15.12 – 19.12
The world’s largest geoscience conference takes place in New Orleans this December. Session, Town Hall, and pre-conference workshop proposals are open until April 23, 2025 (23:59 EDT/03:59 UTC). Abstract submission is open from mid-June until July 30, 2025 (23:59 EDT/03:59 UTC).
We hope this summary will help you and we wish you a very happy networking year!
