Ágnes Király

Ági is a researcher in geodynamics at the Centre for Planetary Habitability, at the University of Oslo. Ági is interested in all things subduction, mantle dynamics, and rheology. She is currently the PI for project ANIMA, Anisotropic viscosity in mantle dynamics, which is funded by the Norwegian Research Council. From 2025, she will lead the project DYNAMICE, Exploring the impact of anisotropic viscosity on the interplay between ice and mantle dynamics, funded by the European Research Council.

DYNAMICE: An ERC Starting grant project to bridge the gap between geodynamics and ice modelling

DYNAMICE: An ERC Starting grant project to bridge the gap between geodynamics and ice modelling

In the 2024 ERC Starting Grant call, the European Research Council received nearly 3,500 proposals, of which approximately 14% were awarded funding. Among the 20 projects funded in the field of Earth System Sciences is DYNAMICE, led by Ágnes Király, the 2023 recipient of the EGU GD Division Outstanding Early Career Award. Through this blog, Ágnes will introduce us to her project. The vast ice shee ...[Read More]

Geodynamics 101 – Viscous anisotropy

Geodynamics 101 – Viscous anisotropy

We are living in an anisotropic world. From rock-building crystals, ice, and trees growing in your garden to your favourite slice of cake many materials or objects has some anisotropic behaviour. What does this mean? Anisotropy (non-isotropy) implies that a material property depends on the direction of the measurement. In geodynamics we often talk about seismic anisotropy, originating from microsc ...[Read More]

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship

The summer months are often considered the cucumber season both in politics and in academia. However, there are several young researchers who use these months to work like crazy on proposals for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowship call. To give some inspiration to these young academic adventurers, I asked some current and recently awarded MSCA Fellows to share their experien ...[Read More]
