The Geodynamics Division @ EGU25

With the EGU General Assembly (GA) less than a month away, attendees should start planning their schedules to get the most out of the week. In today’s blog, Geodynamics (GD) Division Early Career Scientist (ECS) representative Garima Shukla highlights the GD Division’s networking events and provides an overview of key events at the GA. 

Networking Events: Geodynamics Division

What: ECS Pre-GA Icebreaker

When: 16:00-17:30 Sunday 27 April

Where: Copa Beach

This Icebreaker event is designed for Early Career Scientists to meet before the start of the General Assembly.  We’ll be meeting at Copa Beach at 4 pm. It’s the perfect opportunity to get to know other attendees from the Geodynamics, Geodesy, Solar-Terrestrial Sciences and Planetary & Solar System Sciences Divisions. Bring your own drinks and snacks for a relaxing afternoon on the banks of the Danube.  

   

                           

What: Division meeting for Geodynamics

When: 12:45-13:45 Wednesday, 30 April

Where: Room K1

We encourage all geodynamicists to come along to the annual Geodynamics Division meeting. This meeting will provide a summary of this years activities and will also share forward plans. This is the primary forum for the geodynamics community to share their thoughts and ideas on the direction of our division. Lunch will be provided. 

 

 

 

What: Geodynamics ECS Dinner

When: 19:00-20:30 Thursday 01 May

Where: Gigerl restaurant @19:00; meet at EGU booth @ 18:30

The Geodynamics ECS Dinner is a great opportunity to connect with other geodynamicists from across the world. We’ll meet at the EGU booth at 18:30 and make our way to Gigerl restaurant. It is essential to sign-up for this dinner as places are limited. To attend, register via this form

 

 

 

Geodynamics Award Lectures

What: Augustus Love Medal Lecture

When: Tue 29 Apr, 19:00–20:00 CEST

Where: Room D1

The Augustus Love Medal Lecture will be held on Tuesday evening.  The recipient of the Augustus Love medal, Neil M. Ribe, will give a talk entitled Thin-shell dynamics of subduction. The GD Division Outstanding ECS Award recipient, Iris van Zelst, will give a talk on Exploring the tectonics and seismicity of Venus

Short Courses

There are 60 short courses running at this year’s General Assembly. These courses provide an interactive forum to learn more about a specific topic. In particular,  if you are interested in extending your knowledge of another discipline, consider attending a 101 short course:

The EGU25 app will be live soon! This app allows attendees to create a personal programme for the General Assembly. You’ll be able to highlight specific talks and entire sessions that are relevant to your research. Don’t forget to check out the union-wide, community-led and interdisciplinary sessions. Garima Shukla has recently completed her PhD from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Bhopal, India. Her research focuses on investigating the origin and emplacement of Pachmarhi dyke swarms of Deccan Continental Flood Basalt through rock and paleomagnetic analysis, along with identifying the depth of the feeder magma chamber/s.
