Happy 10th anniversary EGU!

Cake and candles to celebrate 10 years of the EGU at the Union’s Executive Office

Today, 7 September 2012, marks the 10th anniversary of the European Geosciences Union, Europe’s premier geosciences union. A decade ago, in the Hotel Platzl in Munich, Germany, the European Geophysical Society (EGS) and the European Union of Geosciences (EUG) merged to form the EGU.

At the EGU Executive Office, also in Munich, we celebrated this momentous occasion with champagne and cake. Here’s a glimpse of our festivities.

  1. Congratulations EGU for your first decade of valuable activities! EGU has provided me venues in which I have found the unique opportunity of interacting not only with other astrobiologists, but especially with engineers that are moving forward the frontier of what can be achieved in the exploration of our neighboring planets and satellites, as well as other solar systems.

It’s a real pleasure to see how the new office is developing to become a strong player in the arena of scientific unions of the world!

EGU has seen wonderful development over the past few years, I’m proud of having been part of it and thank all those who made all this happen – not the least the person whose comment precedes mine!

Greetings to all past and present EGU colleagues!

  3. Happy anniversary EGU!
What an achievement since 2002! I wish to be available to celebrate the 20th. Before that, I expect EGU 2013 to propose a dedicated program for this particular celebration!
