Not long until we all gather again virtually or in-person for the EGU 2022 General Assembly, and the Solar-Terrestrial physics (ST) Division’s Early-Career Scientists (ECS) Team is organising several events, which you might want to add to your personal programme!
SC4.12 – Meet the Experts: The Future of Solar–Terrestrial Sciences
Thursday, 26 May, 17:00–18:00 CEST (UTC+2) Hybrid format: room -2.61/62 in the Austria Center Vienna and Online In this short course, three experts in the solar–terrestrial sciences are sharing their views on the future of our field and will provide tips specifically directed to early-career scientists based on their experience. This year’s three experts are: – Assoc. Prof. Manuela Temmer (University of Graz), expert in solar and heliospheric physics; – Prof. Xochitl Blanco-Cano (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México), expert in solar wind perturbations and interactions with Earth’s magnetosphere; – Prof. Ondrej Santolik (Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences), expert in waves in space plasmas.
ST-ECS online networking event
Tuesday, 24 May, 11:00-12:00 CEST (UTC+2) Online only. Held on Gathertown. This event aims to provide an opportunity for members of the Solar-Terrestrial Sciences Division – especially early-career scientists – to network in a flexible manner. The Gathertown platform will be used to facilitate one-to-one as well as group discussions. A link to join will be shared on the EGU2022 online pages (https://webforms.copernicus.org/EGU22/pop-up-networking-events/all) and the ST Division’s Twitter account!
Onsite networking lunch/picnic for ST Division’s early-career scientists
Tuesday, 24 May at 12:00-13:00 CEST (UTC+2). Onsite only. Meeting point: between entrances 1 and 2 of the conference centre. This event aims at providing onsite ECS participants from the Solar-Terrestrial Sciences Division with an opportunity to meet each other and network. The meeting point will be between entrances 1 and 2 of the conference centre, for a departure around 12:05 towards the park (weather permitting, else a backup plan will be decided on the spot). All ECSs are welcome to join, meet, and chat with peers about career prospects, future collaborations, and any other topic you enjoy! Please note that participants are expected to bring their own food!
Finally, we are also launching a Slack workspace (egu-st-networking.slack.com) open to all ST Division members (not only ECSs!) to facilitate networking during and after EGU22. You can follow this link to join this new workspace [NB: The link will expire on 15 June 2022; after this date, please contact ecs-st@egu.eu to join the workspace].
We are looking forward to meeting you during those events and on Slack, and we wish you all a pleasant and stimulating EGU22!
