Welcome to the blog of the Geochemistry, Mineralogy, Petrology & Volcanology (GMPV) Division of the European Geosciences Union (EGU). This blog serves as a platform for the GMPV community to share news, events, and activities, as well as updates on the latest research being undertaken by GMPV scientists. All GMPV researchers can contribute to this blog and we are particularly keen to showcase the work of young (early-career) scientists. Please send any blogs, stories or tips (especially if you would like to highlight new research!) to the editor Agata Poganj.

Agata is the Blog Editor-in-Chief for the EGU GMPV division. She obtained her PhD in Volcanology and Rock Physics at the University of Strasbourg. She is currently working on the ERC RottNRock project, where main focus is hydrothermal alteration at volcanoes. Her current research focuses on physical properties of volcanic rocks and the explosive-effusive transition. She is an avid supporter of building ECS platforms, believing that open and honest discussion is key to improving scientific spaces for everyone. Write to her about any and all blog related questions at: poganjagata@gmail.com.
Post-graduate student at University of Bologna (Italy). Holding a BSc in Physics, emphasized in Climatology and currently focusing my studies in geophysics and volcanology. Researching the links between heavy rain-storms and lahar and/or volcanic landslides triggering, while dedicating my science to hazard assessment and risk mitigation. Interested in science communication, social/political sciences as well, and in the development of a world that respects earth and its creatures.
PhD candidate at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (Brasil) and currently a visiting researcher at the University of Lausanne (Switzerland). My research focuses on petrochronological constraints to investigate the geodynamic evolution of the Raspas Metamorphic Complex (SW Ecuador), with broader interests in high-grade metamorphism, ocean–continent subduction, and tectonic processes. I am also engaged in teaching, outreach, and science communication, with a focus on inclusive education and diversity in geoscience. Feel free to write to me at gutopaivasilva@gmail.com
I am a Research Fellow, working on improving petrogeochemical tools using accessory minerals such as titanite and rutile. I am interested to develop tools that allow us to assess metamorphic conditions from detrital minerals and improve our understanding on the evolution of crustal geothermal gradients through time. I love books. I love nature. I love Earth Sciences.
Samira is a Blog Editor and Social Media Manager (Facebook & Instagram) for the EGU GMPV Division. She holds an MSc in Geology of Mineral Resources, Geomaterials, and Environment, and currently works as a part-time Geology Instructor at the University of AMOUB, Algeria. Her research focuses on circular geological structures as part of the AFIPS projects. Her areas of expertise include remote sensing, GIS, metallogeny, and petrography.
I am a geologist with a PhD in igneous petrology and geochemistry. I love studying mineral reactions, magma-mineral interactions and their bearing on the rock formation. I enjoy fieldwork, nature trails, music and books. I am keen on using my knowledge to have a positive impact of society and environment.
Simona Gabrielli is a geophysicist working on attenuation tomography and surficial geology interactions in volcanic settings (e.g. Mount St. Helens)
