GMPV ECS Campfires – Mineralogy Meets Soil Science: Remediation, Weathering Processes and Interactions

Joint Campfire - GMPV - SSS

How do minerals shape the future of soils, and how do soils drive mineral transformations?

This campfire highlights remediation strategies, contamination hazards, and mineral–soil interactions that control water quality, carbon storage, and ecosystem health.

Join us on Wednesday, December 17th @ 11 am CET to explore how weathering, organo-mineral processes, and innovative approaches help tackle pollution, support climate resilience, and guide sustainable soil management.

Our speakers for this joint edition are:

Ewa Stępień (AGH University of Krakow), on “Fluid-mineral mediated formation of mimetite Pb₅(AsO₄)₃Cl for efficient arsenate removal from water using Pb-modified zeolite

Błażej Cieślik (University of Wrocław), on “Nickel pathways during ex situ mineral carbonation of serpentinized peridotites: implications, advantages, and challenges

Xavier Dupla (ETH Zurich), on: “Back to the future of Enhanced Rock Weathering: a little agronomic journey in time

Thiago Inagaki (Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research), on: “C-Persistence Across Scales: Leveraging Organo-Mineral Associations and Management to Build Climate-Resilient Soils

Talk attendance is by registration only, by using the registration form on the EGU page of the event here.

Looking forward to seeing lots of you there!

Co-organized by: GMPV & SSS Divisions

We are looking for speakers! If you’d like to present at a future seminar, or if you know ECS interested in the opportunity, here is the registration form to join one of the 2024/2025 Scientific Editions. In order to improve the gender balance of our activities, we particularly encourage women to register and promote their work.

You can also give us feedback on any of our talks or provide ideas for the Campfires here.

Marine Boulanger (Université Clermont Auvergne), Marco Knüver (University of Bari), Veronica Peverelli (Trinity College Dublin), Anne Sturm (Universität Heidelberg), Fernanda Torres (Ruhr Universität Bochum)
