INVITATION: Special Issue on Georisks in the Mediterranean

A special issue themed “Georisks in the Mediterranean and their Mitigation” is being compiled to be published in Natural Hazards (Springer) (Impact Factor of 1.719)

Manuscripts containing original research or reviews are welcome for submission. They will be accepted or rejected after a peer review process. Topics covered by this Special Issue include but are not limited to:
  • Geology and active tectonics of the Central Mediterranean
  • Geohazards – earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides and coastal erosion
  • Seismic hazard assessment
  • Geophysical investigations and engineering seismology
  • Seismic vulnerability of buildings and urban areas
  • Earthquake engineering design and assessment methodologies
  • Science, society and civil protection

The review process of the papers will be managed by the following team of editors:

Specialist in these fields are invited to contribute in the special issue. The electronic submission system is now open.  It is important that authors select “SI: Georisks in the Mediterranean” when they reach the “Article Type” step in the submission process.

The deadline for submission of articles is 30/11/2015, while tentatively publication will take place in June 2016.

Matthew Agius is a recent PhD graduate from the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies in Ireland and is now doing research at the University of Southampton (National Oceanography Centre). His research focuses on the dynamics of the lithosphere beneath Tibet, the Central Mediterranean, and the Pacific Ocean. Matthew’s role as a young scientist representative is to promote the efforts done by young researchers and to engage in discussions that concern seismology students.
