Antonella Peresan

Senior seismologist at the National Insitute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics - OGS (Italy), I graduated in Physics in 1996 and got my Ph.D. in Geophysics of the Lithosphere and Geodynamics in 2001. I carried out teaching and research activities at ICTP (Trieste) and at Trieste and Roma Tre Universities. My research interests are related to earthquakes and cascading hazards, spanning from joint analysis of seismicity patterns and Earth Observations to time-dependent scenario-based seismic and tsunami hazard assessment. I also engage in citizen science activities to improve seismic risk awareness and exposure assessment. Former Science Officer for the EGU "Earthquake Hazards" sub-division (2015-2020), I now serve as the Policy Officer of the EGU "Natural Hazards" Division. I pay special attention to the operational impact of scientific research, fostering technology transfer initiatives towards the end-users community. Coordinator of capacity building activities within an EU-funded World Bank project aimed at multi-risk assessment in Central Asia, I am currently involved in research aimed at modelling complex urban systems for disaster mitigation within the PNRR-RETURN programme.
