Developing Groundwater – the Drilling Weekend

Kirsty Upton writes about an opportunity offered by Hydrogeologists Without Borders…

Following its success in 2012, HWB-UK and RedR will be running the Hydrogeology & Drilling Supervision training course again in 2013. The 3-day course focuses on managing and developing water sources in an aid and development context, and is aimed at (practicing or aspiring!) humanitarian water engineers. The course will be led by a team of experts with over 100 years combined experience in water supply and hydrogeology within a development context. The course will provide the opportunity to gain hands-on experience of different drilling methods, drilling supervision, pumping tests and groundwater monitoring. This is balanced with practical sessions on basic hydrogeology, borehole siting and design.

When: 13th Sept – 15th Sept 2013

Where: Silsoe, near Bedford, UK

How much: £380, including accommodation (Henlow Bridge Lakes campsite), breakfast and lunch.

(£50 discount for humanitarian workers and members of the London Geological Society)

  1. Sounds like a great opportunity! Could be worth adding it to the EGU meetings calendar to highlight it too (http://www.egu.eu/meetings/calendar/).
