Hi, this is your ST-ECS team 2023-2024. We are a group of Early Career Scientists (ECSs) of the Solar-Terrestrial (ST) division, and we organize events and activities with and for ST-ECS, both during the EGU General Assembly and throughout the year. Our aim is to increase the visibility of ECSs and provide you with opportunities for networking.
Dr. Liliana Macotela, ECS Representative
Liliana is a Marie Curie Fellow at the University of Bath, UK. Her research focuses on studying the dynamics of the lower boundary of the ionosphere during quiet conditions and under the influence of atmospheric, solar, and astrophysical phenomena. She is the current ECS Representative of our division.
Dr. Veronika Haberle, ECS Co-representative
Veronika is a postdoctoral researcher at the Conrad Observatory at GeoSphere, Austria. She studies the effects of Space Weather on the geomagnetic field and associated impacts on technological infrastructures including power grids. Additionally, she is actively involved in improving the coordination within the space weather end-user community in Europe. She is the current ECS Co-representative of our division.
Andreas Wagner, ECS team member
Andreas is a doctoral researcher at both the University of Helsinki and KU Leuven, where he works and studies as part of the SWATNet project. His research focuses on investigating the early-stage evolution of solar magnetic flux ropes. In particular, he works on methods to extract these magnetic structures from simulation data and analyses their basic properties and how they lose stability, leading to solar eruptions.
Chukwuma Anoruo, ECS team member
Chukwuma is a doctoral researcher at the University of Nigeria. He uses GNSS data to study the magnetosphere-ionosphere-thermosphere (MIT) coupling, the phase delay irregularities in trans-ionospheric propagation, traveling Ionospheric disturbances (TID) in GNSS and total electron content (TEC) during ionospheric substorms and storms, and TID coupling with stratospheric warming during propagation of atmospheric gravity waves (AGW).
Dr. Eleanna Asvestari, liaison between the ECS and the Communications team
Eleanna is an Academy of Finland Research Fellow at the University of Helsinki, Finland. Her research stretches over the entire Sun-Earth space, investigating solar eruptions near the Sun, modelling magnetic fields in the solar corona and the interplanetary space, and studying the terrestrial impact of extreme solar storms. She is also an Outreach and Communication representative of our division.
Dr. Jia Jia, ECS team member
Jia she is a researcher at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Norway. Her research interest is how earth’s atmosphere responses to energetic particle precipitation (EPP) both chemically and dynamically, encompassing the scales of weather and climate. Currently she focuses on understanding how the EPP-induced chemical changes couple with the polar vortex and wave propagation using satellite data, reanalysis data, and model simulations.
Juliana Jaen, ECS team member
Juliana is a doctoral researcher at the Leibniz-Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Germany. She studies the dynamics of the middle atmosphere, focusing on long-time scale evolution, trends, and influences from external phenomena, such as the sun’s activity and other stratospheric and tropospheric phenomena.
Dr. Maxime Grandin, ECS team member
Maxime is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Helsinki, Finland. His research interests predominantly revolve around magnetosphere–ionosphere couplings (especially particle precipitation), but he is also involved in citizen science studies of the dune aurora.
