Post-doctoral position in seismology is available at the Earth System Physics (ESP) section of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP). The position is funded by the GENERALI Group – a major player in the global insurance industry, in the framework of a research project integrating earthquake fault studies and simulations of the ground-motion.
ICTP offers internationally competitive remuneration which will depend on the research experience of the candidate. An enthusiasm for contributing to the capacity building mission of ICTP would be useful (more on www.ictp.it). The position is re offered for an initial period of one year, renewable for up to an additional two years, to start as soon as possible.
Earthquake ground-motion simulations
The appointed researcher will focus on ground-motion simulations for earthquake engineering applications. The successful applicant will have access to the on-site High-Performance Computer and simulate a suite of hypothetical earthquakes in North-Eastern Italy and Western Slovenia and other high risk areas. The goal of the research is to explore the variability and level of ground motion for realistic earthquake scenarios and examine the effect of complex ruptures and Earth structure on predicted ground shaking.
The candidates are expected to have a PhD in geophysics, engineering or computational sciences with a focus in earthquake ground-motion modeling. Candidates holding a Ph.D. in other disciplines but with knowledge and skills relevant to the Research Opportunity may be considered.
Further details of the project are available from the project PI, Abdelkrim Aoudia (aoudia@ictp.it).
Applicants should include:
- a curriculum vitae
- a list of publications (with refereed journals highlighted)
- a letter of motivation and statement of research interests
- three reference letters
