We are excited to announce the 16th edition of Geodesy Campfire – Share Your Research in February. The Geodesy EGU Campfire Events “Share Your Research” give (early career) researchers the chance to talk about their work. We have two exciting talks by our guest speakers, Matthias Willen and Joshua Dreyer. Below, you can find the details of the topics awaiting us. We will have time to network after the presentations.
Please join us on Zoom on 19th February 2026 from 14:00 to 15:30 (CET). Register for this webinar here.
Matthias Willen@TUD Dresden University of Technology – Chair of Geodetic Earth System Research: Measuring the mass balance of ice sheets and solid-Earth deformation from space
Matthias Willen is a PostDoc at Dresden University of Technology at the Chair of Geodetic Earth System Research in Germany. His research work focuses on quantifying mass-change-related processes in polar regions using geodetic satellite data. These include, in particular, the mass balance of ice sheets and effects due to the glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) process. To do this, he is further developing combination methods that enable gravity fields from GRACE and GRACE-FO and surface elevation changes from satellite altimetry over ice sheets to be evaluated within a joint globally consistent framework.
Joshua Dreyer@Royal Observatory of Belgium: Development of Global VTEC Maps at the Royal Observatory of Belgium: Applications for Space Weather and Long-Term Ionospheric Trends
Joshua Dreyer is a postdoctoral researcher at the Royal Observatory of Belgium, where he studies Earth’s ionosphere and its coupling to space using GNSS data. Previously, his PhD at the Swedish Institute of Space Physics and Uppsala University was focused on Saturn’s low-latitude ionosphere using Cassini data and photochemical modelling. He is also interested in all kinds of auroral research, planetary science and everything that could reasonably be classified as aeronomy.
Time to connect!
After the presentations, we invite everyone in the audience to turn on their camera and microphones, if possible. Participation via the chat is of course also possible. We will start with a short introduction round to get an idea of who is in the room. So if you like to, you can already think about how to summarise your research in a few words so that mortals can also understand it! We’re also open to hear about your favourite dinosaur, your latest burnout, or the 4th element on your tasks list today. Just be there and be talking, we guarantee for the awkwardness.
We are always looking for speakers for upcoming Geodesy EGU Campfire Events “Share Your Research”. Are you interested in giving a talk? Then, please express your interest by filling out this form.
If you have any questions about the Geodesy EGU Campfire Event, please contact the Geodesy ECS Team via ecs-g@egu.eu.
We look forward to seeing you at the Campfire!
