Shalenys Bedoya-Valestt

I am an oceanographer and PhD candidate in Climate Sciences at the Climate, Atmosphere and Ocean Laboratory (Climatoc-Lab) of the Desertification Research Centre (CIDE, CSIC-UV-GVA) in Valencia. My thesis is devoted to deepening the understanding of the historical changes of regional sea breezes (Mediterranean basin) in a changing climate, together with simulations. I am also blog editor of the EGU Climate Division. Happy to collaborate! shalenys.bedoya@csic.es

Weaker but more frequent: how sea breezes are changing in a warming climate

Weaker but more frequent: how sea breezes are changing in a warming climate

For the 500 million people living along the Mediterranean coast, the sea breeze is an essential component of the regional climate. They are more than a pleasant coastal wind, as they are critical for easing summer heat stress, dispersing pollutants, and triggering convection (the rapid upward movement of warm, moist air), sometimes leading to severe storms, among many others. But the Mediterranean ...[Read More]

20 years of Climate of the Past: A journey through two decades of paleoclimate research

20 years of Climate of the Past: A journey through two decades of paleoclimate research

Twenty years ago, a small group of scientists set out to create a journal dedicated entirely to understanding Earth’s climate history. That journal, Climate of the Past (CP), was launched in 2005 as an international open-access journal of the European Geosciences Union (EGU), and over the past two decades it has become a cornerstone for the paleoclimate community. From geological eras to the last ...[Read More]
