CL
Climate: Past, Present & Future

Submit a blog post

The CL Division blog features recent research findings in climate science alongside insights from guest authors on relevant climate topics. The Division explores all aspects of the ocean-climate-atmosphere system, bridging multiple overlapping and complementary disciplines. Our focus spans the reconstruction of past climatic changes, assessments of the current climate, and model predictions for future scenarios. We welcome interdisciplinary contributions from scientists, students, and professionals across these fields.

Guidelines

Originality

We do not accept AI-generated text or images in our submissions. We encourage authors to write using their own words to ensure authenticity and originality in every post.

Language

Please consistently use either British or American English, and bear in mind to use inclusive language (for more information see this “incomplete” guide). As in any blog, the text should convey a personal view on a topic and be written in engaging language.

Length and body text

Blog posts should ideally be anywhere between 800 and 1500 words long. Use a few paragraphs and add subheadings if they help.

Audience

The posts of the EGU CL division blog target a broad scientific audience. Keep things clear, simple, and free of technical jargon whenever possible.  The goal of the blog post is to present scientific content to a broader audience, not to make a scientific, referenced review on the subject. You should use as little references as possible and keep the language simple and attractive. Keep in mind that non-specialists do not necessarily know what is for example: an isotope ratio, a calibration, an empirical model, a thermodynamic equilibrium… So, if you absolutely have to use a technical term, please explain it briefly in everyday language. Think of this as a chance to explain your work to a curious friend.

Images

Include 1–3 images in JPEG or PNG format that help tell your story. Simple, clear visuals work best, and please avoid detailed scientific graphics. Wherever possible, captions should be used for images. The author should be credited together with a link to the original source, if appropriate. Images should be open access and if not, permission must be obtained from the author before publishing.

Feature image

This main image will be displayed alongside your post title. You can use one of your figures or a unique, eye-catching photo. It should not be too crowded nor complicated. Avoid overly complex images, and remember to add a caption. Recommended size: 700 x 400 px. It is the responsibility of the authors to make sure that the figures can be reproduced (i.e. that they are not copyrighted or that you have received permission from copyright owners).

AI statement

EGU do not permit the use AI generated imagery or videos in any of Union blog posts, as AI generated images are predicated on the theft of artwork repurposed for financial gain. Even if the quality of these generations were not usually poor, the environmental cost of AI image and video generation alone would be justification enough to prohibit the use of generative AI imagery in any EGU content.

Authors

Please provide for all authors:

  • Full names and affiliations;
  • Profile photo (optional but encouraged);
  • A short bio (a few sentences about yourself)

The photo and bio will be published below the post. After publication the blog will be also shared through our social media, newsletter / mailing list. Please let us know if you have a social media account that can be linked to this post.

References

The citation style should be similar to that used by Copernicus in EGU journals and the paper should be linked to, as in this example: “Lee, G., Jun, K.-S. and Chung, E.-S.: Integrated multi-criteria flood vulnerability approach using fuzzy TOPSIS and Delphi technique, Nat. Hazards Earth Syst. Sci., 13, 1293–1312, doi:10.5194/nhess-13-1293-2013, 2013″.

Keywords

Add keywords (like “climate history” or “future projections”) for easy indexing.
