Geology for Global Development

GfGD Easter Placement Opportunity with CAFOD

Geology for Global Development is offering an opportunity to spend one week in the humanitarian department of an international NGO, CAFOD, working with Dr Kate Crowley. Tasks during the week could involve a number of things, all designed to give the student a useful insight into how a geoscientist could contribute in the development sector. It is likely that one task will involve producing hazard and vulnerability maps for areas specified by CAFOD.

When: 15th-19th April 2013

Where: Humanitarian Department, CAFOD

Who: This opportunity is open to all geoscience students who are currently in their third or fourth year of an undergraduate course, or geoscientists who graduated in summer 2012.

Finance: We are currently unable to offer finances to cover travel, food or living expenses during the week, so advise all those applying to ensure they can cover these themselves or through their own applications to university grants.

For an idea of what a GfGD placement with CAFOD will involve, see Ellie’s report from our summer 2012 placement.

How to apply: Interested students should send a CV (no more than two pages) and a short personal statement (no more than 250 words) outlining why you would like this opportunity to GfGD Director, Joel Gill (joel[at]gfgd.org). Before applying please read through the further information provided.

Apply by midday on Monday the 4th of March.
