Hello fellow Seismologists!

The exciting time of the EGU General Assembly is upon us, and we are looking forward to reconnecting with all of you at EGU25. Through this blog, we would like to bring your attention to the events that are organised by the Seismology Division and ECS Representatives of the Seismology Division during EGU25. Grab your calendar, and make sure to come and meet us on many of these events!

 


Sunday April 27th

15:30-18:00 – ECS Icebreaker (CopaBeach Vienna)

Join us on Sunday afternoon for the pre-GA BYO Icebreaker to connect with each other before the official GA starts. Formally organised by G, GD, ST, and PS Divisions, many other ECS scientists (including SM for sure!) will be there. We will meet at 15:30h at the Copa Beach, which is next to Austria Center Vienna. This event is a Bring Your Own event, so do not forget to bring your own drinks and snacks (you can buy them in the beach booths, anyway)! If you are attending the EGU General Assembly for the first or second time, it is the best opportunity for start your networking and learning some conference-attendance tips!

 

 

 

18:30-21:00 – EGU24 Opening Reception (Foyer F)

Join us to the EGU24 opening reception after the initial social event. It’s just a few minutes walking away. Following the official introduction, you can continue the ice-breaking.

 

 

 

 

 

 


Monday April 28th

Let’s start EGU with navigation tips and hints for the conference, and meeting us “officially“!

10:45–12:30 How to navigate EGU: tips and tricks

New at the EGU? Or still confused with overwhelming number of presentations and people? Join this short course to learn how to navigate and make the best out of EGU General Assembly. Room -2.62

16:00-17:00 Meet the ECS Representatives, EGU booth

Want to take a short break during your first day? Would you like to chat with ECS from any division? Come to the EGU booth and meet SM (or any other) division ECS representatives and find out what we are doing and what we have planned for you this GA. Hall X2.

18:00-19:00 First-time Attendee Networking

First time? Meet the others like you, with a small assistance of EGU crew. Place: EGU networking zone – next to EGU booth (Hall X2).

ECS Networking Reception – Tuesday, April 29th, 18:00–19:30. Rooftop Foyer.
There is no registration and you are all invited to join the reception, where we have a chance to connect to ECSs from other divisions!

Join us for this year’s Seismology Division Meeting. Here the Division President Alice-Agnes Gabriel will present the newest information about our division and the ECS Seismology Team will inform you about their activities of the last year.

19:00 – SM Early Career Scientist social dinner (Schweizerhaus Praterstern, Prater, Vienna)

Join us on Wednesday for the Early Career Scientist (ECS) social dinner of the Seismology Division. This will be the perfect opportunity to meet/reconnect with fellow ECSs of the Seismology Division. Also, you can meet the ECS Seismology Representatives Team and hear all about our activities and how to join. The dinner will be at the Schweizerhaus Praterstern (https://g.co/kgs/UX8a7QZ), we request you to arrive at 18:45. Please sign up here by April 23rdA kind reminder that you will be paying for your own food/drinks (preferably cash).

We are a team coming from mixed places with various interests: Dinko is a PostDoc at the University of Zagreb and is the first point of contact for the group. Angel is doing her DPhil at ETH Zurich in Switzerland and is managing our Instagram account. Bruna is doing her DPhill in DIAS, Dublin and takes care of our Twitter account. David is a PostDoc at the University of Lisbon and is spearheading the Campfires. Andreas is pursuing his PhD at Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich and is helping run the blog. William is a PhD student at the University of Southampton in the UK and is also helping with the blogs. Katinka is a PhD student at ETH Zurich and is also on the blog team. Foivos is our newest member and is a PostDoc at the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) in Bologna. Matthew is finishing up his PhD at Oxford University, UK, and is editor of the blogs.
