Spring is here and EGU23 is approaching fast!
Are you ready for a full immersion into every aspect of Geosciences? Anyway, EGU is not only scientific sessions, presentations, and posters… but also social events and networking!
The ECS team of GMPV (and other Divisions) will be there, ready to meet you on many occasions. Here is a quick list of where and when you can find us.
Sunday 23 April
The official Opening Reception is back! The event will be held at the ACV conference center starting at 18.30. This will be a great opportunity to register in advance for the conference (avoiding the queue on Monday morning), and to break the ice before the conference starts!
You can find us at the table of our Division and at the ECS table!
Monday 24 April
Don’t miss the GMPV Division Outstanding ECS Award Lecture by Xin Zhong at 08:30 CEST.
For lunch, join the GMPV, ST, PS, and AS early career scientists! The plan is to get to know each other thanks to an (optional) ice-breaking game and have a nice time, as the General Assembly is starting. Let us meet at 12:30 (as soon as the morning sessions end) near the main entrance of the ACV and find a nice spot in the park. Participants are expected to bring their own food and drinks. In case of rain, we will consider a backup plan. Please note: This event is not being held in the Austria Centre Vienna (ACV), but is being held at an off-site location chosen by the event organisers.
Wednesday 26 April
Give your feedback at the ECS forum (12.45 – lunchtime). If you have ideas or complaints about how EGU is going for early-career scientists, this is the perfect time to have your say.
Check regularly the EGU website and GMVP social media for pop-up events.
… stay with us for the GMPV Dinner at 19:00*
Get ready for the GMPV dinner event in 7stern Bräu, open to anyone who would like to join (ECS and Seniors). You will have the opportunity to talk with other colleagues, but also with the GMPV ECS team, learning about what we do and how to join us! You can register for the event here.
*Our apologies for moving the date from Thursday to Wednesday!
Thursday 27 April at 12.45
Join the Annual Meeting of the GMPV Division, where you will be hearing updates and future plans from the outgoing GMPV President Marian Holness and incoming President Holly Stein. Anne Sturm will also present the ECS activities on behalf of the outgoing GMPV ECS representative Giulia Consuma, and will welcome Simona Gabrielli as the new GMPV ECS rep.
… stay with us for the Robert Wilhelm Bunsen Medal Lecture by Susan L. S. Stipp at 19:00
During the week, you can also attend Short Courses organized by our ECS team together with other ECSs:
- If you are at that stage of your career where you have any doubts about the next step, the short course held by Francesco Giuntoli can be helpful for you: Careers inside and outside of academia: Panel Discussion (Monday 24th, 08:30–10:15 CEST) is aimed at early career scientists and at anyone with an interest in a change of career.
- Geology 101 (Tuesday 25th, 16:15–18:00 CEST) is the perfect introduction to geology for non-geologists, starting from the principles of geology to the connection with seismology and geodynamics. The short course is organized together with G, GD, SM, SSP and the TS Divisions.
- On Wednesday 26th (14:00–15:45 CEST) don’t miss the short course organized by our outgoing ECS representative together with other Divisions, about Outreach: how to get your science out there? You will discover the different ways of communicating your Science and the challenges behind it.
