9th I.A.G./A.I.G. SEDIBUD Workshop – Sediment Dynamics in Cold Climate Environments, Kaunertal, Tyrol/Austria, 7-10.09.2015

9th I.A.G./A.I.G. SEDIBUD Workshop – Sediment Dynamics in Cold Climate Environments, Kaunertal, Tyrol/Austria, 7-10.09.2015

Changes in climate have a major impact on sediment dynamics in cold environments from high arctic/antarctic and subarctic/subantarctic to alpine and upland sites. Climate changes influence the nature and extent of glaciers, permafrost areas, ice sheets and the extent and intensity of glacial, peri-, pro- and paraglacial processes.

In this context major foci of the workshop are related to:

  1. Observations of geomorphological processes in cold climate environments and
  2. Measurements and modelling of sediment fluxes and budgets in cold climate geosystems in past, present and future.

The abstract submission ends at July 31st, 2015.

The registration fee of 100.00 Euro is to be paid until July 31st, 2015 (information below) and counts as formal registration.

A final program will be sent beginning of August 2015.

Preliminary schedule

Monday (2015-09-07) – 6 p.m. Arrival of participants at Gepatschhaus (1928 m above m.s.l.), 7 pm Dinner & Icebreaker.

Tuesday (2015-09-08) – Full-day scientific meeting at Gepatschhaus with talks and poster presentations.

Wednesday (2015-09-09) – Full-day excursion to the Gepatschferner and its proglacial area, in the evening SEDIBUD business meeting.

Thursday (2015-09-10) – Half-day scientific meeting with talks. Departure.

Venue

The 9th SEDIBUD Workshop will be held at the Alpine hut Gepatschaus (http://www.gepatschhaus.at) located close to the Little Ice Age maximum extend of the glacier Gepatschferner.

The Gepatschhaus is located in the upper part of the Kaunertal valley catchment In the Ötzal Alps in Tyrol/Austria. Geological setting, landform composition and geomorphic activity provide excellent opportunities to measure rates and processes of cold climate sediment dynamics.

Scientific Meeting Registration

The Scientific Meeting Registration fee covers only accommodation (communal bunks/dormitory). To register for the workshop please pay 100 € until July 31st, 2015 to:

Dr. David Morche

IBAN: DE20 1203 0000 0015 2805 71
BIC: BYLADEM1001

Bank name: DKB

Final calculations of the cost will be done in the end. The fee may be reduced for members of Alpine Clubs (DAV, ÖAV etc.).

Abstract submission

Abstracts (1-2 pages of text, without illustration) must be submitted electronically as WORD file to david.morche@geo.uni-halle.de. Please provide the title of your presentation and indicate if you prefer presenting your work as a talk or a poster during the workshop.

Deadline for abstract submission is July 31th, 2015. The number of participants is limited to 30.

Travel information

The next airports to the venue are: Munich (MUC, Germany), Innsbruck (INN, Austria), Milano (MIL, Italy), Zürich (ZRH, Switzerland).
The closest train station is “Landeck-Zams Bahnhof (am Inn)”.

From there you can get the Postbus 4232 to the “Gepatschhaus” (Leaving time: 8:15 AM and 12:45 PM).
